Remove the Front Turn Signals

Realize before doing this it may be illegal in your state or country and I am not responsible for any liability occured by the procedure or the removal of the light.

Why do this, well the main reason is to increase air flow to the intercooler, my guess is that a 30% increase can be had by this simple procedure.  Some also say it looks better or looks like you have a custom front spoiler, and the 3rd benefit is you can save about 2lbs (every little bit counts)

How do you do this.

Tools needed and recommended, 1/4" rachet, 10mm socket, small extension bar, knife or small flat head screw driver, small open end wrench (8mm I think, will check)

Well you must remove the front Headlights to get to the bolts that you need to remove the turn signals.  There are 3 bolts for the turnsignals, and 3 bolts per headlight.

1st remove the headlight.

Dcp00283A.JPG (58092 bytes)Ok this is the 2nd bolt, use extension with rachet and remove it, the above picture is another angle of it, there are actually 2 10mm bolts located here, remove both, the 2nd one is hard to find, use a flashlight and keen observation to find it.  You must remove both bolts to get out the headlight.

After removing the 3 10mm bolts, unplug all the light extensions, you should be able to do this by hand, I just removed the wire and would not recommend removing the actual bulb (note that if you remove the bulb there is a possibility of condensation entering the headlight, as well as the possibility of the bulb breaking while working on the bulb.

After the 3-4 plugs are removed then pull the headlight out from the inside out, this inside out motion is the same procedure for both lights, the light should remove very easy, almost no pressure is needed, after pulling inside out slide the outside out and wham you see the turn signals below.

Use a open ended wrech to undue the 3 bolts (1 top, 1 on each side) the screws after loosening will slide off by hand.  Use a screw driver or knife if needed to unplug the wiring harness.

Both turn signal lights come right off, if you want the turn signals in please keep the wire harness attached and you can use velcro to make them removeable, also some people relocate the turn signals to the center part of the opening of the front fascia instead of the 2 sides.  Either way you go you should be able to achieve the same result which is more flow to the intercooler.

Dcp00295A.JPG (40140 bytes)This is what the Intercooler looks like with the turn signal removed, if you don't like the little screw holes use a utility knife or scissors and cut them out, it is very simple they are standard plastic, If you are worried about the reinstallation of the lights I am told that even with the holes cut out the top bolt is ample to hold it in place and the other side holes are unneccessary.

Also from a distance you cannot see these bolt holes, just look at the 2nd picture on this page, and that was taken less than 5ft away.  so it really isn't neccessary to cut em out unless you want to
