Shut Up and Listen
The inspiration for this shut up and listen is for people to simply shut up and listen. People keep asking over and over and over again the same question which is getting tired and boring to not only the newbies but also the veterans on the supra's list and the supra community. Now why are these questions asked every 3 days and why are they so borring? Well simple, because the same outcome happens over and over agian, there are really only 1 or 2 choices possible and yet a thousand questions for these things. So I will address them at an attemp to make a 1 line answer, check out this link it is the answer.
Downpipe:
What's the deal, are emissions a problem... the simple answer is no
most of the time, emmissions are not a problem, many places don't have testing, for the
places that do put the old catatlitic converters up for the testing then put the Downpipe
back on.. Now what size what make what this what that..
Ok the cat's
Well get em don't get em.. advantage to not get them, run race gas (leaded), cheaper,
maybe less weight
Get em... no emmissions worries
Size
3" or 3.5", do they matter well only for serious horsepower above 500 do you
really need 3.5"
also the 3.5" hangs down a lot lower and so some rubbing or scraping may occur and
the 3.5" will most likely be a little louder or deeper due to the resonance, although
the sound differnce is most likely minimal
Flex Joint
What is a flex joint, well where the flanges are there is a flexible pipe portion so that
when the motor or the DP shakes the flex portion absorbs the jar or jolt and the
flanges don't or the flanges don't break, are they needed on the supra, in this man's
opinion NO, the reason's are as follows: hundereds of people run 1 piece DP's
non-flex and they have no problems, even people at 600HP, and there are rubber mounts not
solid mounts for the exhaust system that flex and move so they will absorb the shock, Flex
joint is also more expensive about $70-$100 more
Now who makes these Downpipes, well there are like 5 people to talk to
Rod Millen Motorsports -- they make 1 piece 3" stainless and non-stainless DP's.. They keep em in Stock
Scott Performance -- custom make any DP to any spec, 3", 3.5", Cat, No Cat, flex No-Flex whatever you want, they can truely customize the piece you want, they are all custom built too
Toyomoto -- 2 piece one for each stock section, they mainly push the 3.5" size
Boost Guage:
Ok who makes em where to put em, what size more complaining more misinformation, its so
simple people..
Ok you put it in the clock location, no cutting required, what brand the SPI comes in
black face, green lighting to match stock color lighting, read's in Lbs and its so simple
to read and the face readings match stock almost perfectly... What size, for the clock
location use 52mm
