Downpipe
The ultimate modification for a supra and definetly a stepping stone for modification platform is the downpipe. One of the first things recommended is the downpipe along with Intake and Fuel Cut Defensor.
The horsepower gain is 35-60 and the reason you get so much power is that the downpipe will get rid of the huge restriction in the stock exhaust letting your turbo's not only spool quicker but also boost higher which is the majority of where the power increase comes from. The first time you try this modification you will definetly be surprised and extremely happy for days to come.
Tools Neede: 1/4" rachet, 1/4" 10mm and 12mm socket, 1/2" rachet or breaker bar (any bar with more leverage), wobble, 14mm socket, 10-12" extension **Note can substitute for 1/2" rachet a 3/8" long bar or impact gun, also 14mm socket/woble bit and an extension is still needed**
There are 3 parts to the stock exhaust, 1st catalytic converter (cat) and the 2nd cat, and the Y-pipe to Muffler piece.
You will remove parts 1 and 2 (both cat's)
Warning: This installation is difficult to do at home, mainly due to leverage restriction caused because of inadequate leveraging when under car with Jack stands. This modification is easiest accomplished by having a local mechanic perform the operation. Beware removing the catalytic converters is illegal and getting a normal exhaust shop to do this may be difficult, most performance shops probably will not have a problem doing it though.
Procedure:
Remove the O2 sensor with the 1/4" rachet and socket, 2 bolts on the 2nd cat piece, you can see the O2 sensor housing on the 2nd picture, leave it hanging for time being, and you have the option of installing the heat shield on the new downpipe
Well you will need to loosen the 3 bolts with the 1/2" rachet, wobble, extension, 14mm socket, that are connected to the upper manifold. Just loosen all 3 to a great extent, this is the hardest part of the installation.
Then you will want to remove the the part that attaches to the tranny, the holder of sorts, you can use a ratchet to remove the little metal black protectors on the tranny and then remove the bolts actually holding the connecter up.
A... Know if you want to remove the Downpipe as 1 piece then just loosen the remaining 2 bolts at the Y juncture on the back end of the 2nd cat piece, they are also 14mm.
B.... To make removal easier due to weight mainly.. Unbolt the other 2 bolts (attaches 1st and 2nd cat piece), 1st the piece with the holder to the tranny , remove holder, then loosen the 2nd bolt, be ready to accept the 2nd cat piece, loosen rear bolt holders to remove 2nd cat.
Then loosen the rest of the 3 upper bolts and pull down, be careful the pieces are heavy.
